Human Factors & Ergonomics

Human factors & ergonomics examine the interaction between humans, products, processes and systems. By applying principles pertaining to psychology, engineering, industrial design, and anthropometry, human factors scientists aim to optimize occupational health and determine the human related factors that may contribute to an accident.

Application of human factors allows for a determination of pedestrian or driver attention, strategies, visual perceptions and responses during an accident. Human Factors scientists at NBI regularly examine issues related to:

  • Attention / Inattention
  • Mobile Phone Use (e.g. texting during driving)
  • Low Light Conditions
  • Warnings & Cautions
